How to connect Linux box (O!Player) to Windows 7

If you have problem connect a Linux box (like most Media Player) to Windows 7's shared folders. Here is the trick:


1. Open regedit.exe on the Windows 7 machine


2. Make sure set the value to the following:


[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters] "restrictnullsessaccess"=dword:00000000


[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] "LimitBlankPasswordUse"=dword:00000001 "everyoneincludesanonymous"=dword:00000001 


3. Restart Windows 7 machine




I have verified this with my ASUS O!Player.

iPad Apps - iBooks

iBooks
A must have from Apple. Besides use it to read books you buy from iTune store, you can also add your own books (like PDFs) through iTune.
The animation of flipping pages is amazing.

Don't forget to get the free text book: Life on Earth (1G in size). 

You can rotate the DNS models using your finger in the book!

What I don't like is it takes a while to start this app. I don't know what Apple is doing during this time.

Best PDF reader on iPad. Faster than iBook. Easy to manage files inside the app itself (like file manager).
It is easy to add PDF file. I use the following two method:
1. Through Dropbox. No need to connect to computer.
2. Connect to computer and use iTune to add the files.

It supports the new iPad retina display recently. Enjoy the crisp clear fonts!

I like the way multiple articles are presented in tiles so you can quickly decide which one to read. I also like the way to turn to next page by swipe you finger (flip).

Solve Internet Cable Intermittent Disconnection Problem

The intermittent disconnection happens several times a day. Each time, the internet connection is down for several minutes and then comeback without doing anything. I can see the Upstream, Downstream and Online lights flash during the down time. 


This problem happens several months ago. Before that it is never disconnected. I suspect there maybe some server software update on Rogers side which makes the firmware of the modem not fully compatible.


After 7 calls and couple of months, TekSavvy finally agrees it is Cable Modem firmware problem and replaced me with a new one. It is good that I bought the modem from TekSavvy. The modem I used is Thomson DCM475. The new one has firmware STAC.02.16. The old one is STAC.02.8.

After the replacement, the internet connection never get disconnected for a whole week.


Two thins I do not understand:
1. Why it is so hard to replace the modem since TekSavvy knows it is cable modem firmware issue.
2. Why user can not upgrade the firmware themselves. This save both the Cable company and customers lots of times and costs.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.1 on iPad 1

Just upgraded my iPad 1st Gen to 5.1 and jailbreaked. It works like charm. 
Tethering jailbreak is not a problem for me since iPad seldom restart.
